# Maptionnaire

> Maptionnaire is a GIS-backed community engagement platform built by Mapita Oy (Helsinki, Finland) that lets urban planners, municipalities, consultancies, and researchers run the entire public participation process from one place — designing map-based surveys, building project communication pages, analyzing geospatial input, and closing the feedback loop with stakeholders. Founded in 2011 by land-use planning researchers, the platform pioneered "maptionnaires" (map-based questionnaires) and is now used by 400+ planning organizations across 40+ countries, having engaged 25 million community members across 15,000+ projects.

Maptionnaire is browser-based (no app downloads, no GIS expertise required), ISO 27001 certified, GDPR compliant, and conforms to WCAG 2.1 / 2.2 Level AA accessibility standards. The admin interface is available in English, Finnish, Swedish, German, and Dutch; surveys can be translated into 50+ languages with the built-in AI translation tool. Subscription pricing is based on the number of published surveys — not on users, languages, questions, or responses — and every plan includes onboarding plus support.
